Spurts of applause can be heard here at the Radisson as some of Suffolk County’s Republicans are beginning to take a commanding lead. Already well in control of legislative districts 1, 2 and 6, as well as several of the local races. Now they’re just waiting on the results of races that are still up for grabs.
In Brookhaven, the GOP has a heavy lead in council districts 2, 3 and 5. But no one here was very surprised that Kathleen Walsh is running away with District 3. Some classified that race as a “gimme.”
Brookhaven Supervisor candidate Robert DiCarlo is losing ground to incumbent Brian Foley but no one here is giving up hope yet. With only about half of the districts reporting, they’re not jumping to any conclusions yet.
