Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman has been declared the winner – Kaiman won in spite of a major corruption scandal in the town building department that occurred during his tenure.

Suffolk Republicans aren’t saying much right now. Many of the races, including Legislative District 7 and Brookhaven supervisor remain close and no one is looking to concede yet.
The room is full but the podium has stayed empty as everyone patiently waits until all districts report.

In one of the most hotly contested races this year, as of 10:30, Democrat Brian Foley, the incumbent supervisor in Brookhaven, is ahead with 54 percent of the vote. The crowd here roars in approval every time the numbers are updated.

Nassau County Republican Chairman Joseph Mondello has declared victory in the 3rd Legislative District. Mondello says Republican incumbent John Ciotti will beat challenger Ali Mirza by about 1,000 votes.
